Gemma Mills – Senior Associate
Gemma started her legal career as a paralegal in New Zealand. In 2008, Gemma graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Canterbury. Thereafter, she completed practical training through the Institute of Professional Legal Studies’ in Auckland.
In 2009, Gemma was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and commenced legal practice in family law and commercial litigation. She gained significant experience in the Family Court of New Zealand undertaking complex matters such as the recovery of children under the Hague Convention. Gemma has vast experience dealing with highly sensitive situations having acted as the preferred solicitor for branches of the Women’s Refuge (National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges Inc.) based in New Zealand.
After relocating to Australia in 2012, Gemma joined Robertson Hayles Lawyers and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Gemma currently practices in the areas of family law, estate planning, commercial law and trust law. She has considerable experience in all areas of family law including property settlements for married and de facto couples, spousal maintenance, children matters, child support and the preparation of binding financial agreements. With her knowledge of commercial and trust law, Gemma is equipped to undertake property settlements involving complex business and trust structures.
Gemma also provides advice and prepares all types of commercial leases, mortgages and trust documentation.
Gemma is a member of the Family Law Practitioners’ Association of Western Australia and the Law Society of Western Australia.
