Dr Roberto Musotto is a commercial and technology lawyer admitted to legal practice in Italy and Australia. He holds a Master of Legal Practice from the University of Western Australia, a law degree cum laude from the University of Palermo, a PhD in Economics from the University of Messina, Italy and a Bachelor of Music from the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini in Palermo.

Roberto practised in Italy from 2015 in commercial law and estate planning. In Australia, he has acquired significant experience in cyber security, privacy, telecommunications, and data protection. He has provided legal advice to governmental organisations, private enterprises, and community organisations, often requiring him to navigate complex legal and regulatory landscapes to deliver robust cyber law solutions for his clients. He is adept at advising clients on a variety of governance, regulatory, and compliance matters including GDPR, CCPA, Essential 8 and NIST Frameworks. Roberto has also advised on cyber law solutions related to drones, ships and spacecrafts.

In addition, Roberto practises in commercial and property law and deceased estates.

Roberto was previously the Director of Cyber Security at the Office of Digital Government in Western Australia, leading critical policy development and implementation to safeguard digital infrastructures. He has managed the public disclosure and oversight of cyber incidents. He also provided advice on cyber law considerations in applications made to the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). He has also made significant contributions on behalf of the Western Australian Government on technology, cyber security and the law.

Roberto has also been engaged in consultancy roles on cyber security and technology, with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

Roberto has an extensive academic background, having researched and taught law at the University of Leeds (UK) and Edith Cowan University (WA), focusing on intellectual property, ethics, and governance. His scholarly works and articles on cyber security, privacy, and data, are accessible on his Google Scholar Page and on The Conversation. He is the author of Understanding Mafia Networks, his scholarly contribution to making sense of the amorphous structure of the Sicilian Mafia.

Fluent in English, Italian, French, and Spanish, and conversational in Lithuanian, Roberto is equipped to handle cases involving diverse linguistic contexts.

He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Affiliate), an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), a member of the Space and Law Council of Australia and New Zealand and a member of the Society of Computers and Law (UK).

In his spare time, Roberto enjoys sea sports and is a qualified Yachtmaster with the Royal Yachting Association.
